Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if my water damage claim is denied?
If your claim is denied, we can help you review the reason behind the denial and assist in re-filing or appealing the decision. Our team is experienced in working with insurance companies, and we can provide additional documentation or clarification as needed to get your claim approved.
What types of insurance cover water damage?
Water damage may be covered under different types of insurance policies depending on the cause. These are the main types of insurance that may apply:
- Homeowners Insurance: Covers water damage caused by internal factors, such as burst pipes or appliance leaks, as long as the damage is not due to neglect.
- Flood Insurance: Specifically covers water damage caused by external sources like floods, heavy rain, or rising water. Typically requires a separate policy.
- Renters Insurance: Provides coverage for personal belongings affected by water damage in a rental property. The landlord’s insurance typically covers structural damage.
- Commercial Property Insurance: Covers water damage to business premises from incidents like pipe bursts or storm damage.
Does insurance cover the full cost of water damage restoration?
Insurance often covers a significant portion of water damage restoration costs, but there may be deductibles or limits on certain types of repairs. Pro Tech Restoration will work directly with your insurer to ensure all covered restoration work is included and that you understand your out-of-pocket expenses.
What does “sudden and accidental” water damage mean?
Insurance policies often specify that water damage must be “sudden and accidental” to be covered. This means that the damage must occur unexpectedly and not as a result of gradual issues (e.g., slow leaks or poor maintenance). For example, water from a burst pipe is typically covered, while damage from a neglected plumbing issue might not be.
What happens if my water damage leads to mold growth? Will I need separate claims?
If your water damage leads to mold growth, it’s typically treated as part of the same claim, as long as the mold results from the covered water damage event. However, if the mold damage is extensive and separate from the original water claim, it may require a second claim or separate documentation for the mold. Pro Tech Restoration can help you navigate both aspects to make sure everything is covered appropriately.

"Had a great experience working with Marshall when we had an emergency leak at my mom’s house. He immediately started working to salvage what we could. I felt like he absolutely understood the urgency, and treated my mom like his own! He and the rest of the team were super easy to work with and answered our (many) questions along the way. They were very transparent about the process which was extremely helpful as this was our first time with this kind of issue in 30+ years of owning the house. We so appreciate ProTech for aiding us during our time of need."

"My experience with ProTech was wonderful from the first visit thru the last. Ben did a great job of evaluating the work that needed to be done and explaining everything to me. Frank and Sergio were great to work with because they were pleasant AND they were so very careful about everything they did. All in all, I give the ProTech team an A+!"

"I had a pipe burst and subsequent leakage into my basement. At first I thought that we maybe stopped it in time since we could not see obvious damage but Marshall at ProTech said it would be a good idea to check it out anyway and came out within a couple of days. I’m so glad he did since there was more damage than we anticipated. Marshall explained the damage thoroughly using his imaging techniques and provided a quote within the day. Pricing was good and our insurance accepted the proposal immediately. The ProTech team was able to do the water damage mitigation about a week after the incident and on a Saturday no less. Everything was done super quickly and professionally. While I do not want to deal with any more water damage, the repairs using ProTech were painless. I would recommend this company and especially Marshall to anyone in the same situation."
