DIY Carpet Cleaning Tips
Carpets and rugs can be hard to clean when stained, but that may not be the case always. You might not need to call professional carpet cleaners, if you know how to handle things with a few easy techniques.
Interested in DIY carpet cleaning? Here are 4 different DIY carpet cleaning methods:
1. Create a simple, detergent solution by mixing warm water with dish detergent – use about a quarter teaspoon of detergent in a cup of warm water. Use the same ratio if you happen to need more detergent and focus on the cleaning. Use a good brush and maybe a sponge mop and a rag. You can also use a carpet cleaning machine for greater efficiency but you must vacuum after the carpet dries up so no residue is left behind.
2. To make cleaning easier simply use a normal, all-purpose household cleaner with no bleach in it. Mix with half a cup of fabric softener, a gallon of warm water and a cup of ammonia and you will have a great solution that won’t damage the carpet in the process of cleaning. Always remember to never mix bleach and ammonia or you will end up poisoning yourself in the process. Vacuum the carpet after it dries.
3. You can also use laundry detergent to clean your carpets. Just mix it with warm water in about a 1:10 ratio and you will have an excellent solution to use against carpet stains. Make sure the detergent is not much foaming, leaving a nice scent once you’re done cleaning. Once again, remember to vacuum after the carpet dries.
4. Another possible way to clean stained carpet is using powdered detergent with about a half cup of water and a teaspoon of ammonia. Use the mixture by rubbing the top of the carpet with a sponge. Follow up by absorbing the mixture with a clean cloth so it won’t soak in the carpet. Once you’re done with the cleaning vacuum the dry carpet to remove any possible residue.
