Learn Great Tips on Carpet Cleaning
These days, with life being so busy, it’s easy to forget about many things, especially those things that are not easily noticed! Many of us have wall-to-wall carpeting in different rooms of our houses, but not all of us take the time to care for them properly, or worry about extending their carpet’s longevity. There are many ways to make the carpet in your house last, even with being the “entertainers” of the neighborhood, or with having kids and pets. I will share a number of carpet cleaning tips with you, so that you, too, can have a beautiful, good-as-new carpet!
Vacuum regularly
Depending on your situation, there are different recommendations for how often you should vacuum. With kids, pets, and other forms of heavy traffic, vacuuming every other day is necessary. If it’s just you, or the traffic through your home is light, then twice a week is sufficient. Vacuuming will prevent the build-up of dust, dirt, and allergens. It will also rid your carpet of any fungi or bacteria that have been brought into the home (mostly carried in on the soles of people’s shoes, or on the paws of animals.)
Take Preventative Measures
Using products to protect your carpet from stains, will help to keep the carpet looking fresh, even through spills and heavy traffic.
Take Care of Spots Immediately
As soon as something is spilled or dirt is tracked in, make sure to clean it up as soon as possible. Some artificial drinks have dyes in them that are similar in chemical structure to the dyes in the fibers of the carpet, and they are nearly impossible to remove, if left to soak in. It is recommended that you always have a great spot remover on-hand, as well.
Schedule Professional Carpet Cleaning
Once again, depending on your situation at home, there are different lengths of time to wait between professional carpet cleanings. If there is heavy traffic with kids, pets, and lots of friends and family, then scheduling a company to come clean your carpets every six months is strongly recommended. On the contrary, if you’re carpets don’t see as much “activity,” having a professional carpet cleaning done once a year is adequate. Cleaning your own carpet with rented equipment, or with an in-home carpet cleaner, is a great idea in the meantime, but is not the answer to having your carpets regularly cleaned. These methods are not as efficient as the equipment that a professional company, like RestorationMaster, would use. This is definitely one of the best ways to extend the life of your carpet, as it revitalizes fibers, and truly cleans deep down.
*Only use carpet cleaning companies that use the “Hot Water Extraction” method – with this method, the temperature and pressure of the water does most of the work. Detergents are used to assist with the cleaning, and to remove dust, dirt, and allergens, and coupled with this type of extraction, carpets are left squeaky clean!
Although keeping a carpet clean can seem daunting, remember that your carpeting was a big investment, and caring for it will always cost less than replacing it. Of course, there always comes a time when something needs to be replaced, but with proper care, your carpets can stay soft and beautiful, and last you a long time. Finally, a clean carpet helps to maintain a healthy environment, which definitely makes regular carpet care a priority!
