Water Damage Restoration Services – Palatine, Illinois

ProTech Restoration

(847) 558-6604

Water damage in Palatine has a way of escalating quickly. What begins as water in a basement corner or a small ceiling stain can turn into soaked drywall, damaged flooring, and lingering moisture behind walls. In many Palatine homes, finished basements, aging plumbing lines, and seasonal storms create the perfect conditions for water to spread before it is fully noticed.

ProTech Restoration is a full-service property restoration company serving Palatine and the surrounding Chicagoland area since 2003. The company is widely recognized for its quality and consistency, including maintaining an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and earning repeated industry recognition through Best Pick Reports. That experience shows in how water damage emergencies are handled throughout Palatine.

Our approach is simple and disciplined: stop the damage early and restore the property the right way. We respond with urgency, evaluate the full extent of moisture intrusion, and focus on protecting the structure of your home or business, not just drying what is visible on the surface.

Water Damage Restoration in Palatine, IL

When we arrive at a Palatine property, the first step is a thorough evaluation of the affected areas. We identify the source of the water and determine how far moisture has spread, including areas that are not visible. Professional moisture detection tools allow us to locate trapped water behind walls, under flooring, and within structural components.

Standing water is removed using commercial-grade extraction equipment designed for emergency situations. Once water is removed, controlled drying and dehumidification begin. This process is carefully managed and monitored to ensure materials are dried properly, not just quickly. Moisture levels are tracked throughout the restoration to confirm that affected areas are stable before repairs continue.

Preventing Mold After Water Damage in Palatine, IL

After water damage, one of the first concerns many Palatine homeowners raise is mold and for good reason. Moisture that lingers behind walls, under flooring, or inside insulation can begin causing problems quickly, sometimes within a day or two. Finished basements, lower-level rooms, crawl spaces, and areas with limited airflow are especially prone to mold growth if water is not properly addressed.

ProTech Restoration approaches water damage with mold prevention in mind from the very start. Our team focuses on fully drying affected materials, tracking moisture levels throughout the process, and identifying the source of the water so the problem does not repeat itself. By removing moisture completely and stabilizing the environment, we help reduce the risk of mold growth and protect the air quality and health of everyone in the home or building.

If mold is already present or suspected, professional mold remediation in Palatine may be required to fully resolve the issue and restore healthy indoor air quality.

What to Do Immediately After Water Damage in Palatine, IL

  1. Shut off the main water supply if the source is inside the property and it is safe to access
  2. Stay clear of standing water near outlets and switch off power before unplugging electronics
  3. Lift curtains, drapes, and furniture legs to limit moisture absorption
  4. Relocate belongings away from wet carpeting and affected areas when possible

Common Mistakes to Avoid After Water Damage

  1. Do not use household vacuums or electrical devices to remove water
  2. Avoid placing paper, cardboard, or printed materials on wet surfaces
  3. Limit foot traffic on soaked carpeting to prevent moisture from spreading

Guidance With Water Damage Insurance Claims

Water damage often forces quick decisions, and insurance questions can add stress to an already difficult situation. ProTech Restoration helps document damage and works directly with insurance adjusters when claims are filed. When available, we assist with direct billing to help reduce delays and unexpected expenses.

Water Damage That Is Commonly Covered by Insurance

Many insurance policies provide coverage for sudden and accidental water damage. This often includes situations such as burst pipes, water heater failures, appliance leaks, or damage caused by firefighting efforts. Water damage that originates from an unexpected plumbing issue inside the property is also frequently covered, depending on the policy.

Water Damage That Is Often Not Covered

Some types of water damage are commonly excluded from standard insurance policies. Gradual leaks, long-term moisture problems, and damage caused by poor maintenance or neglect are typically not covered. Flooding from external sources, such as rising groundwater or heavy surface water, usually requires a separate flood insurance policy. Sewer backups may only be covered if the policy includes a specific endorsement.

Water Mitigation Related FAQs

Is water damage restoration expensive?

Yes. Water damage restoration is usually not expensive when it is addressed early. When water is removed quickly, materials can often be dried instead of replaced. Costs increase when moisture is left to spread into walls, flooring, or insulation, which leads to more extensive repairs.

Does water damage get worse over time?

Yes — water damage almost always gets worse over time if it is not properly addressed.

Water does not stop causing damage just because the surface looks dry. In many homes, especially in Palatine, moisture continues to spread behind walls, under flooring, and into insulation long after the initial leak or flood.

Here is what typically happens as time passes:

  • Within hours: Drywall, wood, and subfloors absorb water and begin weakening
  • Within 24–48 hours: Mold can start growing if moisture remains trapped
  • After several days: Floors may warp or buckle, drywall can crumble, and odors develop
  • Weeks later: Structural damage, mold colonies, and indoor air quality issues may appear even if the original water source is gone

What makes water damage deceptive is that secondary damage often shows up later. Many homeowners think the problem is resolved because the area feels dry, only to discover mold, staining, or soft materials weeks or months afterward.

Why and How People Choose a Professional Contractor After a Water Damage Disaster?

When water damage happens, most people start by asking one simple question: Can I handle this myself, or do I need a professional? In many cases, the decision to hire a restoration contractor comes down to risk, uncertainty, and the consequences of getting it wrong. Water rarely stays where it is visible, and what looks manageable on the surface often involves hidden moisture behind walls or under floors. As time passes, damage can spread, costs can rise, and safety concerns become harder to ignore, leading many people to choose professional help to ensure the problem is handled correctly from the start.

Can I stay in my home during water damage restoration?

Often yes, especially for localized water damage. However, extensive flooding, electrical hazards, or large drying setups may require temporary adjustments. ProTech Restoration explains this clearly on a case-by-case basis.

What is the most common cause of water damage in Palatine homes?

Basement water intrusion is one of the most common causes. Palatine experiences heavy rain and rapid snowmelt, which can overwhelm sump pumps and older drainage systems. Nationwide, basement flooding is one of the leading reasons homeowners file water damage claims, especially in homes with finished lower levels.

Do plumbing problems cause a lot of water damage?

Yes. Plumbing failures are a major cause of water damage in Palatine homes. According to insurance industry data, nearly half of all water damage claims are related to plumbing issues, including burst pipes, aging supply lines, and water heater failures. Older homes are especially vulnerable due to aging pipes and fittings.

"Had a great experience working with Marshall when we had an emergency leak at my mom’s house. He immediately started working to salvage what we could. I felt like he absolutely understood the urgency, and treated my mom like his own! He and the rest of the team were super easy to work with and answered our (many) questions along the way. They were very transparent about the process which was extremely helpful as this was our first time with this kind of issue in 30+ years of owning the house. We so appreciate ProTech for aiding us during our time of need."

"I had a pipe burst and subsequent leakage into my basement. At first I thought that we maybe stopped it in time since we could not see obvious damage but Marshall at ProTech said it would be a good idea to check it out anyway and came out within a couple of days. I’m so glad he did since there was more damage than we anticipated. Marshall explained the damage thoroughly using his imaging techniques and provided a quote within the day. Pricing was good and our insurance accepted the proposal immediately. The ProTech team was able to do the water damage mitigation about a week after the incident and on a Saturday no less. Everything was done super quickly and professionally. While I do not want to deal with any more water damage, the repairs using ProTech were painless. I would recommend this company and especially Marshall to anyone in the same situation."
