Hoarding and Estate Cleaning Services – Los Altos, CA 94040

(408) 457-0633
Hoarding is a complicated disorder that derives from anxiety and the more we learn about the behaviors associated with hoarding, the better we can help those who are affected by hoarding.  People that hoard often develop a habit of collecting any and all objects and have an inability to throw anything away, leading to a growing collection of items that could create unsafe and unsanitary living conditions.  ServiceMaster Disaster Restoration and Recovery (DRR) provides hoarding and estate cleaning services in Los Altos, CA to clean out, sanitize, and restore the homes of hoarders.  We are trained and equipped to handle the most extreme cases of hoarding and our approach emphasizes the important of gaining the individual’s trust and putting them at the center of the cleaning process.

Hoarding behaviors can be very dangerous because as the mass of hoarded items grows, they could restrict passageways in the home, greatly increase the risk of a fire, and contribute to unsanitary living conditions by harboring the growth of mold, bacteria, and other harmful substances.  It is important for those that hoard to get help before the situation becomes dangerous but people that struggle with hoarding issues are often embarrassed by the situation and will rarely reach out for help on their own.  A close friend or family member typically helps the individual begin the cleaning.  ServiceMaster DRR provides effective hoarding cleaning services that include removing unnecessary hoarded items as well as thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the home for safer living conditions.

Hoarding Cleaning Approach from ServiceMaster

ServiceMaster Restore has recently collaborated with Matt Paxton to create a whole new approach to hoarding cleaning.  With this new process, we work to develop a sense of mutual trust and respect with the individual before ever entering their home and we make sure that the individual is an integral part of the cleaning process with final say on what items are thrown away or kept.  The three phases of this approach include:

Phase 1: Personal Connection

  • We attempt to understand the full scope of the problem before entering the house.
  • We try to establish a personal connection with the affected individual based on trust and respect.
  • We begin developing the cleaning plan with the help of the individual and their family and if the individual needs further assistance, we can refer a professional therapist or counselor.

Phase 2: Developing and Implementing a Cleaning Plan

  • We will develop a complete cleaning plan with the help of the individual.
  • Once hoarded items are removed, we will clean and rearrange what is left.
  • We will help make decisions about whether objects should be thrown away, kept, or donated while making sure to give the final decision to the individual.

Phase 3: Follow Up

  • We create a cleaning plan so that the individual can continue to maintain a clean home.
  • We do phone follow ups to see if the plan is being followed and if the individual needs additional cleaning services, we will return to the home.
  • Our certified technicians are fully prepared to handle all hoarding cleaning projects and we keep the affected individual in charge throughout the process.

Hoarding can create dangerous and unsanitary living conditions that threaten the safety of the individual and their families which makes it important to intervene and begin the cleaning process.  If you know someone who hoards in Los Altos, CA or the surrounding areas, contact ServiceMaster DRR for hoarding and estate cleaning services.  You can reach us any time at (408) 457- 0633 to learn more about our hoarding and estate cleaning services.
