Spring Cleaning Checklist for Your Home
The spring season has arrived which means that it is also the season for spring cleaning around your home. Typically, homeowners perform a deep cleaning of their home in the spring to clean the areas that may not be a part of their daily cleaning routine. By performing in depth home maintenance in the spring, homeowners can eliminate the dirt, allergens, and clutter that have built up in the house all winter. Many spring cleaning checklists advise cleaning room-to-room but cleaning the entire house top-to-bottom is also effective because the dirt and debris that falls to the floor is removed in the last stage of the cleaning.
Here is a spring cleaning checklist for effective top-to-bottom home cleaning.
Pre-Clean
In the pre-cleaning stage, surface clutter and personal belongings are cleared from each room which makes it easier to adequately deep clean. The pre-cleaning stage may include picking up misplaced items and putting them away, washing and putting away dishes, and clearing any counter space.
Top Zone
The top zone refers to the high spots of a home such as ledges, high windows, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and air vents that are often neglected during routine daily cleanings. Make sure to clean and dust these top zone features and replace any light bulbs or air filters that need to be changed.
Mid to Top Zone
This zone of the house includes features that are at eye level. In this stage of the spring cleaning, homeowners should wash and iron their curtains or drapes, dust off tall furniture such as bookshelves, wash the windows, and dust off any wall hangings such as clocks, mirrors, and pictures.
Mid to Low Zone
The mid to low zone refers to features that are about waist level and may include many areas that are part of daily cleaning routines. Just make sure to give these areas a more intense clean than normal. Mid to low zone cleaning should include dusting all surfaces, cleaning all furniture, vacuuming upholstered furniture, washing and changing bed sheets, and cleaning all bathroom features such as the toilet, shower, bathtub, sinks, and counters.
Bottom Zone
The last zone to clean in the house is the bottom zone which consists mostly of the floor and baseboards. The purpose of this stage of cleaning is to make sure your floors and baseboards are clean and remove the dirt and debris that has settled on the floor throughout this spring cleaning process. Bottom zone cleaning includes sweeping hard surface floors, mopping tile or linoleum floors, vacuuming all rugs and carpet, dusting baseboards, and cleaning near the entrances to your home.
By following this spring cleaning checklist, you can have your home spotless from top to bottom for a fresh start to the spring season. If you would like your home to get a deeper cleaning than you feel you can provide, it may be beneficial to hire professional home cleaning services to clean your carpet, upholstery, or hard surface floors. Once your spring cleaning is complete, you will be able to enjoy your clean home as the nice spring and summer weather move in.
